2 motorcyclists die after crash with U-turning car

Two unidentified motorcyclists lost their lives on Thursday, June 8, 2017, after they were struck by a car while jointly riding their motorbike. The fatal accident occurred along in southwest Albuquerque near the intersection of 98th Street and San Ygnacio.

A tourquoise-colored sedan was driving along San Ygnacio in the southbound direction as it approached the roadway's intersection with 98th Street. The driver of the car was preparing to make a U-turn when both the motorcycle and car crashed into one another. The motorcycle was obliterated in the crash while the sedan sustained only front end and passenger side impact damage.

Both of the motorcyclists died instantly as a result of their injuries suffered in the crash. As for the driver of the sedan, that unidentified individual was transported to the hospital with what has been described relatively minor injuries.

Whether the motorist had the right of way to make the U-turn at the intersection where the accident occurred is still up for debate. Investigators continue to work to understand what caused the fatal accident.

According to the Motorcycle Rights Organization of New Mexico, the number of motorcycle crashes resulting in fatalities is currently on par with last year's numbers. It's unclear as to how many of these involved just the motorcyclist or whether the accident can be attributed to another driver's negligence.

Those who are injured or the family members of those who have lost their lives may be entitled to recover expenses including past and future medical bills, funeral costs, lost wage and loss of companionship, among other ones. A Los Lunas car accident attorney can guide you in understanding your rights as it relates to filing a claim in your case.
