A Valencia High School student is killed in a car crash

A standout junior varsity soccer player at Valencia High School lost her life in a head-on car crash the afternoon of Tuesday, Sept. 26.

The high school sophomore had been riding as passenger in a friend's truck as they proceeded southbound along Bonita Vista right before 3:30 p.m. that afternoon. Soon thereafter, her friend, who was behind the wheel at the time, attempted to navigate a curve, It's then that she entered the northbound lane, crashing head-on into an oncoming Ford truck.

A school resource officer with the Los Lunas School District witnessed the crash and ran to offer assistance to the four students involved in it. He also called in the crash to police dispatchers.

The young man and woman, who had been riding in the northbound pickup, both suffered significant injuries. They were transported to Albuquerque for treatment. They were expected to survive.

As for the driver of the southbound pickup, who police have deemed as responsible for causing the crash, she reportedly only suffered minor injuries in the crash. Her passenger, the athlete, was not as lucky though. She succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the crash.

Police were able to determined that both weather and speed may have played a role in helping to cause the crash. Police have yet to make any determination as to whether they will charge the friend of the decedent for her role in causing her death.

If you've been hurt in or lost a loved one in a car crash due to someone else's negligence, then a Los Lunas motor vehicle accident attorney can advise you of your right to recover damages such as medical costs or funeral expenses.
